Xrefs:
In 3D do most of your work in individual drawings
and Xref them into the main arrangement drawing.
The advantages are:
You save quite a bit of time in regens and moving
around the drawing by working on individual drawings that are then Xrefed into the main arrangement drawing.
On the individual drawings you work in Model
Space and Paperspace (See Paperspace Tips).
When you are working on the main arrangement
drawing and if the size is to big you can give individual Xrefs a temporary name.
Now when you start up the main arrangement drawing the renamed Xrefs wont be found
but will still be linked to the drawing.
When it comes to printing the final arrangement drawing rename the Xrefs back to
their original names and they will reappear on the arrangement drawing.

Paperspace:
Do your entire layout drawing in Modelspace and
keep all your text, notes and drawing sheet in Paperspace. Put the dimensions on
their own layer which you can easily turn off when you Xref this drawing into
another.
The main advantage is that when you Xref this drawing into another drawing only the Modelspace
entities will be brought in.
Also investigate the use of the overlay option when attaching xref's to your
drawing. When you Xref a drawing with overlay's attached, the overlay's are not
brought with it.

Filter:
The filter command is useful if you want to
select certain entities in a drawing. At the bottom of the list of selectable entices
are the Boolean commands so that you can select a number of different entities at the same
time.

Running Snap:
(Set in Object Snap Settings under the Tools menu)
In AutoCAD R14 they have made an improvement, so that when you have your snap set to center
and you find the center of
a circle or arc a symbol of a circle shows up. There is a different symbol for each of the
snap points.
With that in mind it is important to have your
running snaps set all the time so that you can take advantage of the increase in
speed that using them generates.
When you have your running snaps set, press the
F3 button this Toggles your Osnap setting Off & On.
You could for example have Endpoint, Center and Intersection set on, press F3 and you have
no running snaps press F3 again and you have your original snap settings back again.

Move, Copy
& Stretch:
In AutoCAD R14 if you want to Move, Copy or
Stretch an object a certain distance all you have to do is Select the object, move the
mouse in the required direction, type in the required distance and press enter.
In R14 you can use a crossing window to deselect entities.
You can also use a crossing Polyline to select entities.

Dimension:
If you want to add text to a dimension and have it appear below the
dimension line add the character \X. Any text that you put before these
characters will appear above the line and any text that you put after these
characters will appear below the dimension line.
